Junior High Boys Win Ainsworth Invitational, Two Records Broke

Michael Poese and Kolby Dean each set an O’Neill Junior High record and the Eagle boys tallied 171 points to out distance second place Valentine at East City Park on Monday.  Poese’s mark came in the 400 where he turned in a winning time of 56.2   That effort surpassed Randy Colfack and Randy Bentz who had shard the record since Bentz’s 56.9 in 1994.  Dean was the lone vaulter left when he cleared personal bests of 10-4 and 10-8.  He then switched poles after his first miss at 11-1 and promptly cleared the height.  His effort was an inch better than Jon Marvin who had held the record since 2011.

The Eagles also got winning performances from Riley Davis in the 8th grade discus (122-4), Mason Walsh in the 7th grade shot (34-4), Brandon Hopson in the high jump (4-10), Juan Zapata in the 200 hurdles (29.6), and the 1600 relay (4:02.4  Dean, Turner Jussel, Zapata, Poese).
