Latino Summit

November 03, 2018

On Tuesday, October 30th, 2018 a group comprised of ten O'Neill High School Latino junior and senior students attended the Latino Summit held in Columbus, NE. This event is put on annually by the Nebraska Department of Education and the Nebraska Latino American Commission. The day is full of various learning opportunities that promote college and career readiness. The Keynote speaker for the event, Gabe Salazar, is known around the country as the top rated Latino American youth motivational speaker. He started the day off with a speech that left a lasting impact on our students. He spoke of hope, passion, dreams, and aspirations. Following break out sessions where students could focus on topics that interested them, 15 scholarships were handed out to students across the state that excelled in the area of Leadership. Our very own Sonia Costilla was awarded one of these scholarships that she will be able to use while pursuing her college degree next year. Mrs. Kelly and all of our Latino students are very grateful for the opportunity to attend the Latino Summit each year and would like to extend a thank you to the administration and board for supporting our attendance at this conference.
